Setting up GODMSurveyor for Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5 and 6IntroductionThis version of GODMSurveyor is for Microsoft Windows-based Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Please follow the steps below to install GODMSurveyor on your PDA. If you wish to setup a desktop emulator of a Windows PDA go to the 'Emulator Installation' instructions. Note: The treatments and site characteristics features are available through our online data entry forms, but they are not available in GODMSurveyor. Step 1: Make sure your PDA is compatible with GODMSurveyorThe GODMSurveyor program runs on a Personal Digital Assistent (PDA) that is running a Windows Mobile operating system. To check the operating system on your PDA, follow the steps below:

If your PDA is not running one of the operating system versions listed above you may need to upgrade the operating system. You can visit the Microsoft Windows Mobile web site for more information. Step 2: Make sure your GPS is compatible with GODMSurveyorYou also need a Global Positioning System (GPS) to capture locations of your surveys. Make sure you have one of the following:
If you have a handheld GPS you can either connect it to your PDA with a serial cable or enter the coordinates into GODMSurveyor from the GPS by typing them in. This will be covered in more detail a little later. Step 3. Connecting your PDA to your computerBefore installing the software your PDA will need to be physically connected to a computer. Please either place the PDA in the cradle, or connect it through a USB cable, one of which should be provided by the manufacturer of the PDA. Connecting the PDA should be described in the PDA's product information. Step 4. Installing Software for your PDA to communicate with your computerIf you are running any operating system other than the Microsoft Vista operating system you will need to install Microsoft 'Active Sync' to have your PDA communicate with your computer. Active Sync is available at the Microsoft Mobile Software download web site. Please visit this web site and install the appropriate software. After the software is installed you may be asked to setup a partnership between your PDA and your computer but this step is not required to use GODMSurveyor. Step 5. Copying GODMSurveyor to your PDAThe GODMSurveyor installation program is in a 'CAB', for 'cabinet', file and needs to be copied into your PDA before it can be run. If you are not familiary with coping files to a PDA you can follow the instructions below.
These steps should copy the GODMSurveyor cabinet file to your PDA. Step 6. Installing GODMSurveyorFollow the steps below to install GODMSurveyor from the cabinet file.
Step 7. Using GODMSurveyorGODMSurveyor should now be installed and ready to use on your PDA. Your next step is to refer to the User's Guide to learn to use the software.
