Our Tutorials Are Currently Being EvaluatedWe recently just completed a citizen science experiment designed to evaluate the effectiveness of different training approaches (e.g. online webpages, online multimedia presentations, in-person PowerPoint presentations, and in-person hands-on training) for teaching citizen scientists why invasive species are a problem, how to use a GPS unit, how to set up monitoring plots using a standardized monitoring protocol, how to identify common invasive species, and how to use this website to contribute observations on locations of invasive species. We wish to thank all of the participants in both Wisconsin and Colorado for helping us learn how to better teach these tasks to citizen scientists! We are now analyzing the results and will incorporate all of the excellent feedback we received into the final versions of our tutorials that we will create and post as soon as they are completed. Thanks to all for a wonderful Colorado event - July 11-12, 2009We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of those who recently participated in our citizen science event in Fort Collins, Colorado. The event was a huge success thanks to each of our participants! Thanks for enduring the heat and the mosquitoes! We greatly appreciate all of our participants, host volunteers, expert botanists, and the staff at the Environmental Learning Center for your time and assistance in making the event a great learning opportunity for all! Thanks to all for a wonderful Wisconsin event - May 30-31, 2009We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of those who recently participated in our citizen science event at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum May 30 and 31, 2009. The event was our first (the first of it's kind, really) and we greatly appreciate all of our participants, host volunteers, expert botanists, and the staff at the UW-Madison Arboretum for your time and assistance in making the event a great learning opportunity for all! |
